Internal Revenue Service (IRS)

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is a U.S. federal agency that collects federal taxes (primarily income taxes) and administers the Internal Revenue Code enacted by Congress. Then-President Abraham Lincoln established it in 1862, and most of its work is spent in the collection of both individual and corporate taxes.
